What a great idea! Congregation Kol Ami in Elmira, NY is having their 5th annual Jewish Food Festival from 11am to 3pm on Sunday, April 14. Congregants will recreate Lower East Side favorites from the turn of the 20th century: matzo ball soup, chopped liver, blintzes, and more. Then the stage will be set: volunteers will dress in period costume, and street vendors will feed the hungry hoards.
Water Street in Elmira will, for a few hours, become Hester Street, with the smells and sights our grandparents and great grandparents knew.
Sounds like a great Sunday outing!
